How to get from Ninh Binh to Hue

There are 2 possibilities how to get from Ninh Binh to Hue:

1. by train (560 000 – 1 000 000 Dong/22 – 45$  depends on seat quality, 11 – 12h )
2. by bus (280 000 – 400 000 Dong/13 – 18$ depends on bus quality, 12h )

We chose (as we like Vietnamese sleeping buses) option 2 night sleeping bus departing at 7 p.m. and arriving around 7 a.m. in Hue including 2 refreshment stops. We booked our middle class ticket for 320 000 Dong/14$ at our hotel with pickup included. You can save some money if you buy ticket directly at bus station but you have to book the ticket in advance. It means more expenses for taxi – once to buy ticket and then transport to bus station. So at the end you will not have big savings. The bus was 30 minutes late, nothing unusual for pickups in Asia. We jumped on the board, had covered with blanket as again air-condition was turned on maximum. We got very lucky this time as the bus driver was driving really smoothly. No Vietnamese sleeping on the ground and after 1 hour reading we fell asleep and woke up just before Hue. It was our best sleeping bus in Vietnam! But another french couple took the same bus but one hour earlier and they had very bad journey. You just never know. In Hue the bus didn’t stop at bus station but in some parking place close to the center. There were taxi drivers waiting for us and offering drive. We felt like if they were bees and we honey 🙂 We walked off to the main road where we took taxi with taxa-meter to our hotel  for 1/2 price 🙂 The train option would be more expensive but with one advantage – you always know where the train will stop.
