Tom Kha Gai – chicken coconut soup

Today i will share with you how to make Tom Kha Gai – chicken coconut soup. This soup is another easy to cook and so tasty thai meal. If you like sweet – sour – spicy thai food there is no better time than now to lear how to cook it. Ingredients are available almost in all european groceries. You can cook soup as a starter or a complete meal in a bowl. Note that you can make vegetarian version when you will use sea food instead of chicken.

 

Tom Kha Gai Ingredients:
  • 75 g chicken / sea food
  • 30 g straw mushroom
  • 2 cups coconut milk
  • 3 fresh chillies (small green)
  • ½ onion, cut quarter
  • ½ tomatoes, cut quarter
  • 3 kafir lime leaves
  • 1 lemongrass, slice diagonally
  • 2 sliced galangal (or ginger)
  • 2 tbsp. lime juice
  • 3 tbsp. fish sauce (or soy sauce)
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 finely sliced coriander
  • 1 finely sliced spring onion
Method:
  1. Place the coconut milk in the pot over low heat
  2. Put the lemongrass, galangal and kaffir lime in the pot
  3. Add chicken and wait until the chicken is cooked
  4. Add large onion, tomato and mushrooms
  5. Add fish sauce (or soy sauce), sugar and lime juice according taste (should be sweet and sour)
  6. Serve into a dish and top with chopped coriander, spring onion and chillies
Tips:

Fresh milk can be mixed with the coconut milk in half portion for better flavor.
For seafood add sweet basil after all.
